Services & Programs
Do I need to sign a contract?
No. Rather Green offers 6, 8, or 10 treatment plans, and you choose how to pay. Prepay for the full plan and your first treatment is 50% off, or pay by the treatment and cancel anytime. You stay because the lawn looks different, not because you signed something.
Do you mow lawns?
No. Rather Green focuses on the turf-science side, soil, fertilization, weed control, pest control, and diagnostics. Your mowing crew can work alongside our program without issue.
How do I get started?
Three ways: call us at (972) 649-9912, fill out the contact form on this site, or text. The first lawn evaluation is free and there’s no obligation to sign up.
Pricing & Scheduling
How much does lawn care cost?
It depends on your specific lawn. Lot size, current turf health, grass type, soil conditions, and any special issues like fire ants, brown patch, or heavy weed pressure all factor in. Chris walks the property himself, IDs what is actually going on, and writes a program from there. Call 972-649-9912 to set up a free evaluation, no obligation.
When do treatments happen?
Rather Green treatments are timed to soil temperatures and the lawn’s growth cycle, not fixed calendar dates. Spring pre-emergent typically goes down mid-February to early March; fertilization windows follow green-up; fire ant and grub treatments are timed to insect lifecycles. You’ll receive a heads-up before each visit.
Do I need to be home during treatments?
No. Chris just needs access to the lawn (gates unlocked, dogs inside). A text message goes out before and after each visit so you know what was applied and when it’s safe to use the yard again.
What happens before and after a treatment?
Before each visit, you’ll get a text or email reminder so you can unlock gates and bring pets inside. After the treatment, Chris sends a follow-up note with what was applied, anything he flagged on the lawn, when it’s safe to use the yard again, and watering guidance specific to that product. If something needs your attention before the next visit, he tells you.
Does my service auto-renew?
Service continues season after season unless you tell Chris to stop. There’s no contract to cancel and no surprise lock-in — month-to-month means month-to-month. If you ever want to take a season off or switch services, just text or call.
Lawn Health & Results
My lawn is already damaged, can you fix it?
Usually, yes. The first step is diagnosis: a soil test plus a walk-through to identify what actually caused the damage (drought stress, compacted soil, chinch bugs, grubs, disease, wrong mowing height, bad irrigation). From there, Chris writes a restoration plan. Most lawns show measurable improvement inside one growing season.
How fast will I see results?
Most homeowners see noticeable color and density changes within 6 to 8 weeks of the first treatment, with full transformation across one growing season as soil chemistry and root health build.
Do you guarantee results?
Rather Green Turf Care Service Guarantee. We stand behind our work. If weeds persist between your scheduled treatments, simply contact us and we’ll inspect the lawn and perform any necessary follow-up spot treatments at no additional charge.
While no lawn care company can guarantee specific results due to factors such as weather, irrigation practices, mowing habits, soil conditions, and existing lawn health, we are committed to providing prompt, professional service and doing what is reasonably necessary to help your lawn achieve its full potential.
Please note that certain difficult-to-control weeds, including dallisgrass, nutsedge, kyllinga, Virginia buttonweed, and other specialty weeds, often require multiple treatments, specialized products, and extended management programs. As a result, control of these weeds is not included under our standard service guarantee unless the property is enrolled in a designated specialty weed management program.
Our goal is simple: provide science-based recommendations, dependable service, and a lawn you can be proud of.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Chris is a licensed pesticide applicator with the Texas Department of Agriculture and applies every product in line with state regulations and label requirements. If you’d like to see the license details, just ask and we’ll share them directly.
What if it rains right after a treatment?
Depends on the product. Granular fertilizer actually needs to be watered in, rain helps. Post-emergent herbicide needs a few hours to absorb, so a heavy rain soon after may reduce efficacy. Chris tracks the forecast before each visit, and if a treatment needs to be re-applied because of weather, it’s included at no charge.
How often should I water my lawn?
About one inch of water per week, averaged across the year. In a typical North Texas summer that means watering three days a week, roughly 15–20 minutes per zone — or better, a cycle-and-soak split that lets water actually penetrate the root zone instead of running off. In winter, far less; the lawn is dormant and overwatering encourages disease. The full breakdown by season lives on the Watering Guidelines page, written by Chris.
How often should I mow my lawn?
Mow at the right height for your grass type, and never remove more than a third of the blade in a single cut. Bermuda: 1.5–2.5 inches. Zoysia: 1.5–2 inches. St. Augustine: 3–4 inches. Mowing height is one of the highest-leverage variables in lawn quality, and most homeowners cut too short. Sharp blades, frequent mows during the growing season — that one habit alone fixes a lot of weed pressure.
Safety & Products

Is your treatment safe for pets and kids?
Yes, once the application has dried, typically 1 to 2 hours. Chris uses professional products at labeled rates, the same chemistry approved for golf courses where thousands of people walk every day. A text goes out confirming when the lawn is safe to use.
Do you use organic products?
Rather Green uses a hybrid approach: organic soil amendments where they work (compost teas, humic acid, organic nitrogen sources in specific seasons) combined with conventional products where they’re more effective and safer when used correctly. Chris can run an all-organic program on request, results will be slower and more expensive, but the option is there.
When can I water my lawn after a treatment?
Depends on the product. Granular fertilizer needs to be watered in within 24–48 hours — rain helps. Liquid herbicides need a few hours to absorb before water hits them, usually 4–6 hours minimum. Chris’s post-visit note will tell you exactly when to water for that specific application, so you don’t have to guess.

CGCS stands for Certified Golf Course Superintendent, the highest professional certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. It requires at least 8 years of experience, a passing exam, peer references, and ongoing education.
