Fire Ant Treatment in Rockwall: What Actually Works
There’s a reason fire ant mounds keep coming back no matter how many bags of dust you buy at the hardware store. You’re killing workers. You’re not killing the queen. Here’s what actually eliminates a Rockwall fire ant colony.
The visible mound is the tip of the colony.
A mature fire ant mound can extend 4 to 5 feet deep and house 200,000 to 400,000 ants. The queen, the one ant that matters, is somewhere near the bottom, laying eggs. Killing the workers above ground stops nothing. The queen keeps producing, and the mound rebuilds in days.
Broadcast bait is how you kill the queen.
Professional treatment uses a broadcast bait, granules that workers pick up, carry underground, and feed to the queen. The queen eats the bait. The mound dies from the inside, usually within 1–2 weeks. Satellite mounds (the ones you haven’t noticed yet) die too, because workers from different mounds share the territory.
For immediate mound knockdown, a targeted mound treatment pairs with the broadcast bait, kills visible activity fast while the bait does the slower, deeper work.
One treatment window protects most of the season.
