What Is CGCS and Why It Matters for Your Lawn
CGCS stands for Certified Golf Course Superintendent, a professional certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Fewer than 1 in 10 superintendents carry it. It’s not a weekend course.
CGCS certification requires a minimum of 8 years as a superintendent, a passing score on a rigorous exam, peer references, continuing education requirements, and ongoing verification. It’s the highest credential in the field, and it’s not easy to keep, CGCS holders have to recertify periodically with additional education credits.
Golf course turf is residential turf, but dialed up.
A golf course superintendent manages 150 acres of warm-season and cool-season grasses under pressure that no residential lawn will ever see. Every decision is measured. Every input is justified.
